Weird formatting from Poster.

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014

In a fit of mobile creativity, I wrote the previous post, “Favorite firestarter books,” using the Poster app on my iPhone.

Clearly, the markup from the app didn’t really work — it didn’t create italics or make bullet points the way I thought it would once the post was published.

Any thoughts from the audience here? Does the problem lie with Poster, or WordPress? And how would I fix it — besides, obviously, going back into WordPress from the desktop browser and changing all the formatting by hand?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Just testing . . .

So far, I have to say I’m not thrilled with the WordPress app for the iPhone. Maybe there are features or nuances that I’m missing, but in general I don’t like how it handles editing drafts that I started on my laptop, and I can’t tell that it has any ability to handle pictures well.

So, this is just me kicking the tires. Carry on.

Light construction underway — mind the debris.

Folks, I’m mucking with WordPress a bit today. There might be some fallout. Your patience is appreciated.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m. — If you can believe it, upgraded all the way from WordPress 2.0.2 (yes, it had an inch-thick layer of dust on it) to WP 3.0.3. Bonus: walked my daughter—the budding hacker—through the last couple of upgrades so she could see an FTP tool in action.

(She says “Hi.”)

IN OTHER NEWS, Monday, 6 p.m. — About half a dozen years after this would have seemed futuristically cool, the comments here now offer you the option to be notified automatically by e-mail whenever someone replies to your comment. It’s the little things, I tell you.

Oiling up the mechanism.

I don’t feel rusty at all in many areas of my life, and in fact the past several months have been a barrage of activity, especially around my new job. Yet even though I write constantly for that job, and even though I’ve been producing columns every week, I have fallen out of the habit of posting here regularly. It’s one of those cases where copious activity in private doesn’t translate to noticeable action for the audience.

So, well, here I am. Look for more from me here on many topics, including fitness, books, business, and even my own fiction.

And if you have suggestions for topics you’d like me to take up — I’m all ears. Please feel free to air your requests in the comments.

Onward!

Just kicking the tires on a new computer setup as I ponder a long stream of topics to discuss here.

Expect more, soon.

Meantime, how’s by you?

In which I make cryptic threats about rampant bloggery.

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I’ve been lax. For the past couple of months, all of my blogging, both here and elsewhere, has been spotty. Lots of good things — e.g. a spate of interesting projects at work — have been happening to keep me away from writing as much, but in any event I haven’t been putting out the words that you so deeply crave that I normally would over the last little while.

But now . . . I can feel the pressure . . . [cue the cellos!] . . . building.

Expect more posts, is what I’m saying.

SXSW is over.

At least for me and the rest of the Interactive attendees. The crazy kids listening to music and watching films, they still have a few days of debauch left.

I have a head full of ideas, a couple of overloaded inboxes, and a lot of following up to do, so my next few days may be chaotic. Normal posting will resume . . . sometime.

Meanwhile, how’s by you?

On the imminence of South by Southwest.

It’ll be here within 48 hours. I’m not ready.

More to the point for this blog, it remains to be seen if I can survive SXSW, use it for business purposes, and still keep up the pace of posts here. I’m dubious, but we’ll see what happens.

Meanwhile, are YOU going to be at SXSW? If so, won’t you please attend the session I’ll be running? The official SXSW listing is here, and our Facebook event page is here. I’d love to see you there!

Once more into the technological breach.

Be warned: Sometime this weekend, I’ll be trying again to upgrade my blog backend. I hope that any technical difficulties will be minor and temporary. Because I know how you need steady access to this archive of my thoughts.

My Nerd-Fu Is Weak.

Monday, February 8th, 2010

That’s what I learned during several hours of frustration yesterday. As I mentioned on Friday, I wanted to spruce up the backend of my blog this weekend — it’s been overdue for updates for, uh, a while — and . . . there went half of my Sunday.

Looking on the bright side, some good things did happen. Among them, (1) I have a couple of extremely thorough manual backups of my blog tucked away in safe places, (2) I know a lot more about upgrading WordPress than I did, and (3) I have a fair idea of what I need to do next, even if I’m unclear about how to do it.

As if I needed convincing, I was also reminded of the generosity of my friends, since no less than four people of strong Nerd-Fu responded to my piteous cries on Twitter with offers to help.

Updates as warranted. Meanwhile, I’ve backed out every change I made yesterday so as not to interrupt your bloggish enjoyment. (At least, I think I backed out everything — please let me know if you run into any glitches.)
