Using LinkedIn.
January 18th, 2007
For a while now I’ve enjoyed playing around with my LinkedIn profile. If you’re not familiar with it, LinkedIn is a professional networking tool that allows you to get and stay in touch with old friends — and make new contacts — online. They’ve been up and running for a couple of years, the site and controls are mostly quite intuitive to use, and a whole user community has sprung up to help you get the most out of LinkedIn. (There are parts of the LinkedIn toolkit that are accessible only with a paid subscription, but so far I’ve gotten what I wanted out of it using the free side of the service.)
So, here’s my own profile.
One of my favorite bloggers, Guy Kawasaki, just did an “extreme makeover” to his LinkedIn profile.
Scott Allen, who runs the LinkedIntelligence blog (dedicated to all things LinkedIn), did a follow-up post commenting on Guy K.’s profile makeover — lots of useful thoughts here. Earlier this week, Scott also posted a useful post about how to get the most out of LinkedIn as a professional tool: “Practicing LinkedIn, Part 1 - Monthly”. After discovering Scott’s blog this week during our, uh, “blizzard”, I’ve been reading some of his old posts and enjoying them. I’m interested to see how I can get the most out of LinkedIn as I launch into some new business and scholarly goals for 2007.
How do you use LinkedIn?

Icicles! We had (still have) icicles hanging from the edge of our roof! Silly me got out in this mess yesterday morning to run to HEB.
Thanks for discovering the blog. I was planning to do part 2 of that series - weekly activities - yesterday, but Guy’s blog was timely and I thought merited comment. Hope to have part 2 up today and part 3 by Saturday. “Watch this space,” as they say.
